William Louis Otte (1871-1957)
William Louis Otte was born in Sheboygan, WI, on Dec. 6, 1871. Otte was a successful stockbroker in New York, and in his leisure, he studied at the New York School of Art, Independent School of Art, and Robert Henri. In 1913 Otte retired from the stock market to devote his life to art.
After Otte decided to be a full-time artist, he moved to Santa Barbara, California, into a studio home at 1300 Los Albertos Road. William Louis Otte died in Santa Barbara on Feb. 5, 1957. An Impressionist, Otte used small, feathery brush strokes and a colorful palette to create landscapes of the desert and areas around his home.
